Water requirement for livestock.

Experts of livestock and dairy development authority advised farmers to increase the production of milk and meat by providing the livestock with clean and fresh water. For better production, water should be given 4 times a day and it should be available all the time in animal shed.

Research has shown that the quantity of milk is increased if more fresh and clean water is given to animals. Experts says milking cows and buffalos need about 130ltrs of water for cleaning purpose and 45-70ltrs for drinking, every day. Dry cows and buffalo needs 45ltrs, horses need 25-35ltrs, sheep and goats needs 7ltrs while poultry needs 0.6ltrs of clean and fresh water for drinking.
