Agricultural experts said that growers should begin to separate offshoots from date palm trees. Varieties such as Hillavi, Khudravi, Asil, Fasli, Dhakki, Basri, Halini and Zahidi, Muzawati, Begum Jangi and Halini produce bumper crops. They said that in Punjab there is a good production of dates in Jhang, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur. The process of separating suckers from palm trees in these areas should begin from 20th September and continue till 15th October. To separate the suckers from the tree first the earth from the base should be removed and then should be separated very carefully from the trunk in a manner that the rudimentary roots at the base of the sucker are not injured otherwise chances for success will be very low. Pits are prepared one month before transplanting. Normal pit size is 75 x 75 x 75 cm. The suckers are placed in the pit in the same position as it was attached with the mother tree. During planation proper treatment should be used against termites, and the sucker plant should not be more than 15 kg.
