Proper drainage arrangements should be made in the rainy season

During the rainy season, adequate drainage arrangements should be made from the fields as cotton and vegetable fields holding water for up to 48 hours can result in loss in germination.

Sugarcane, rice and fodder crops can tolerate excess water during rains, so shifting rain water to these crops does not have much harmful effect, but cotton and vegetable crops cannot tolerate excess water.

Cotton cannot tolerate excess water and severe damage occurs to cotton plants if water is kept in the field for 48 hours. Therefore, the farmer should arrange for the drainage of rain from these crops so that these crops are protected from the harmful effects of rainfall.
