Agricultural Experts have directed okra growers to save their crop from different diseases by taking appropriate measures at right time. Okra crop is attacked by a number of diseases and insect pests. The diseases as well as insect pests found on okra vary from year to year. To save the crop from diseases, confidor solution should be used. In wilting disease of okra crop, the roots of the plants are dry and in severe case the plants dies immediately.
To save the crop from various disease, crop rotation should be done and soil with good drainage must be used. Yellow vein mosaic disease is caused by yellow vein mosaic virus, transmitted by insect vector (whitefly). The initial symptom on young leaves is mottled appearance. Older leaves have irregular yellow areas which are interveinal. Clearing of the small veins starts near the leaf margins, at various points. Then it develops into a vein chlorosis. Fruit develops on infected plants are mostly yellow, small, though and fibrous. During initial stages, height of the plant decreases. This disease is difficult to control, however it can be controlled by saving the crop from whitefly attack. Confidor 0.2 percent can give better results for this disease.
