Farmers are advised to practice hoeing for weed control in maize crop. 2-3 hoeing are required for good management of weed. Farmers are instructed to eradicate weeds at appropriate time. At last hoeing, hilling-up should be done to save the crop from strong accelerating winds due to weather change. Because speedy winds results in crop breakage and falling. Being a rainy season crop, maize is heavily infested with weeds from time it is sown till harvesting. This is because of frequent rains encourages several flushes of weed. Maize crop is sensitive to weed competition during early growth period. Crop losses due to weed competition throughout the world as a whole, are greater than those resulting from combined effect of insect-pests and diseases. Irrigation should be applied according to the situation of crop and over irrigation should be avoided.
