Spinach is an important vegetable of Rabi season and requires a cool and moist climate. Low temperature and high humidity helps in the development of succulent, tender foliage and results in fast growth. Agriculture department instructed spinach growers to timely irrigate for attaining higher production. As it requires abundant moisture for proper growth and development. They said farmers should not delay irrigation, otherwise production will decrease. Spinach grown in ridges should be irrigated at an interval of 6-8 days while spinach grown in lines by drill method should be irrigated at an interval of 10-12 days. Thinning must be done to maintain plant population, so that higher production can be obtained. Healthy, vigorous crop provides substantial competition. Therefore, proper fertilization, irrigation, and insect and disease control measures should be applied for good crop growth. Timely thinning should be followed to properly manage plant growth, otherwise when thinning is done at later stages, damage occurs and soil must be kept moist for spinach production.
