When the corn crop is ready to be harvested, the corn is removed from the plant and spread into thin layers on the roofs. Temperatures are high during the summer so it can take up to 3 days for the corns to dry. For drying purpose there is need of great care. Especially with the sticks that are intended to hold the seeds for the next year crop, it is best to dry them in a shade area. For maize development, synthetic varieties should be selected for the next year crop to be sown from which no other type of maize has been cultivated in three acre premises otherwise seed will not remain pure.
