Irrigation should be avoided 2 weeks before harvesting carrots.

Agriculture Experts have directed farmers to stop irrigation two weeks before harvesting and said that care must be taken during the harvesting of crop. When carrot is 3-4cm in width, then the delay in harvesting should be avoided. They said that due to timely harvesting of carrot, the sugar content is maintained and it decreases when harvesting is delayed.

If water is given during the harvesting stage then the sweetness (sugar content) of the crop decreases. Moreover, they added that high moisture condition in the field must be avoided, as it creates problem during harvesting stage and it becomes quite difficult to harvest the crop. The carrot plant is biennial and develops, in its second year, ‘umbels’ which are groups of flowers that produce seeds.
