The agriculture department has advised the farmers to cultivate sunflower crop as it provide a good source of income. Assistant Director Agriculture, Naveed Asmat said that sunflower is one of the important crop and instead of late sowing of wheat, farmers should prefer to cultivate it. So that higher production can be produced in a relatively less time as compared to late crop of wheat.
Sunflower cultivation help meet the daily demand of edible oil. It help produce more edible oil for domestic purpose. He said that the government is providing subsidy on this crop. It gives production within 100 to 130 days after its cultivation. By the cultivation of sunflower the huge amount on import of oil can be reduced and hence the burden on imports can be overcome. Moreover, he added that the Punjab government has decided to arrange special training programmes for farmers regarding cultivation of sunflower crop.
