Farmers are directed to cultivate Basil plant in lines at a distance of 2 to 3 ft.

Agriculture department has directed farmers to start the cultivation of basil immediately. Cultivation must be completed by the end of February. Before the cultivation farmyard manure at the rate of 10 to 15 tons is applied to the field. After that 3 to 4 times ploughing followed by land leveling is required. A precise land leveling improves irrigation and energy efficiency.

Farmers must cultivate basil crop in lines at a distance of 2 to 3 feet, and first irrigation should be given just after sowing and after that irrigation should be done at an interval of 15-15 days in order to get best results. Removal of weeds is also essential for better production of basil, and thus 2 to 3 times hoeing is required. When plants grow up to 3 to 4 inches, then farmer should do thinning to maintain a distance of 1 to 1.5 feet, so that the growth of plants is not affect.
