Drip irrigation is most suitable for non-seamless, rain fed and desert areas.

Drip system is an efficient irrigation system, especially for non-smooth, rain fed or desert lands drip irrigation system is suitable. Drip irrigation is a type of micro-irrigation system that has the potential to save water and nutrients by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants, either from above the soil surface or buried below the surface. The goal is to place water directly into the root zone and minimize evaporation.

In typical way of irrigation, water is not available at the proper time as water is lost via surface run off. While the proper supply of water to all plants is at the same time through the drip irrigation system, water in the foam of droplets is applied to the roots of the plants. The government of Punjab is providing 60% subsidy on the drip irrigation system and in this regard target has been given to department to irrigate 20,000 acres with drip irrigation system.

  

Drip depression system saves up to 50% of fertilizer, time, labor, water and also there is a decrease in the production of unnecessary weeds. Due to non-availability of water in the country, it is best to apply irrigation by this system as it lead to higher production in addition with the saving water and agricultural inputs. The drip system can save 20 to 30 percent of production costs on irrigation, while saving up to 75% of water.
