Chilli seedlings should be transplanted to the field during the month of January.

Agriculture Experts have directed farmers to transfer chilli seedlings to the fields during the month of January. For higher production, farmers should select fertile loamy soil rich with good drainage system. Water-logged and alkali soils are not suitable for its cultivation. The soil must retain moisture for longer time.

Before the transplantation, farmyard manure at the rate of 10-12 tonnes and 20 kg urea per acre should be applied followed by irrigation. After moisture condition, 2 to 3 times ploughing should be done and field must be left over for some time. So that after the weeds growth, further ploughing will ensure complete elimination of the weeds.

After land preparation, ridges of one and half foot high and 8-10 inches wide ridges are prepared. Transplanting is done on both sides of the ridges and distance between each plant is maintained. For uprooting seedlings, before transplanting, water is thoroughly applied so that no any damage occurs to the succulent roots. Care is taken to avoid dense planting.
